C12 proposes a radically new approach to quantum hardware. Instead of scaling imperfect qubits (the basic units of quantum computers) and trying to compensate in the architecture, C12 uses material innovation to develop near-perfect building blocks first. It proposes ultrapure carbon nanotubes to trap single electrons which act as near-perfect spin qubits. C12 has the unique ability to manufacture these carbon nanotubes with the right dimensions and place them on a semiconductor chip. This approach and the purity of the material render the proposed hardware much more scalable than currently existing quantum computers, with drastically reduced error rates. Therefore, this novel approach could disrupt the nascent quantum hardware market which is poised to grow to a trillion-dollar industry in the coming years.
