Piavita has raised USD 5.5 million from True Ventures, investiere, FyrFly Venture Partners, Zurich Cantonal Bank (ZKB) and private investors. investiere contributed USD 1 million to this round.

Piavita’s novel vital signs measuring system gives equine veterinarians unique insights into the well-being of horses, anytime and from anywhere. It saves hours of manual monitoring work on a daily basis and allows for uninfluenced medical insights over long periods of time. For the first time, veterinarians get a detailed and objective picture of the animal’s health and can organize the horses digital patient files in one place. “Horse care is ripe for innovation”, co-founder Dorina Thiess said in our interview.

The horse market is one of the biggest businesses hidden in plain sight. Taken together, in the US and EU there are more than 15 million horses. The number of veterinaries specialized in horses is 24’800 in the US and 23’000 in Europe. There are more than 4000 clinics that treat horses on both continents. “The multi-billion veterinary diagnostics market is moving into the digital age, and Piavita is in a unique position to benefit from this”, says Michael Blank from investiere.  investiere has supported Piavita from the start and contributed to its seed financing round in 2016.

The funds raised will help Piavita to scale its production, expand to new markets such as the US and grow its team.
